A family photo by Farler Turben from Thru My Eyes Photography in Union City, PA, has hung in our home since 2016. At times, my brother, Caleb, will jump up on the bed and stare at this picture, rubbing our faces and asking questions as he marvels at how much he and I have grown.

We never fully understood why Caleb felt so connected to that picture until we attended a webinar for photographers with Dan McClanahan, who owns McClanahan Studio in Ames, LA. He explained that his kids would also marvel at a canvas in their home, linking the tangible of seeing the love and connection in their family photo to their love and connection with one another. He described that it fills him and his family with joy to view their pictures on the walls of their home seeing their memories.1 McClanahan shared an Instagram post from Rod Evans from Evans Portraits in Sioux Falls about four ways having family photos displayed in the home can correlate to children’s self-esteem:

THE IMPACT THAT FAMILY PICTURES HAD ON OUR FAMILY
After listening to that webinar, we understood why that canvas was so important to Caleb. He saw our love and connection in our family photo and linked it with our love and connection with one another. As he looked at that canvas, he cherished that special season in our lives, reminding him of our precious memories together and how loved and treasured he is.
Since Caleb and I are much older now, our family was thinking about updating that canvas to capture our current season, but Caleb asked what we would do with it. We responded by saying that we’d probably put it in storage, but he immediately felt sad and asked if he could hang it in his room 🙂 It made us realize how important that photo is to him, so for now, the canvas will stay where it hangs 🙂
A JHP Family Story
We were blessed to capture the Fischer Family’s joyful, timeless photos at our outdoor portrait location, highlighting nature’s beauty! During their family portrait session, Jason and Tracy showered their kiddos with love, encouragement, and patience, enriching their experience!
THE FISCHER FAMILY’S PRINT STORY
Before her family’s session, Tracy shared that she wanted to print her photographs and hang them on her wall, so we were excited to help her accomplish her goal! After we captured their family portraits, Jason and Tracy scheduled a fun family adventure with their kiddos! By connecting an exciting, memorable experience with their photos, Jason and Tracy made them more meaningful because their family can remember their precious memories together and relive that joy when they see their pictures!
After we delivered her images, Tracy selected photos for her display and printed them in a variety of sizes with a high-quality finish to complement her simple white frames with cream matting. She and Jason thoughtfully designed the frames on their walls while their kiddos slept to surprise them, creating more excitement and memories! When Tracy revealed them to her boys the following morning, she explained that they stared at and touched the photos, giggling at seeing themselves hanging on the walls of their home and treasuring their special moments together! Even her little one-year-old daughter’s eyes widened when she saw the photos!
